Default Fuel Injector Issue.

I hope this is not a repost, I searched, but I couldn't find anything, so i'm sorry if it is. Anyways, I've got a whole crap load of things going on today (like driving 100 miles away and planning a surprise party that looks like isn't going to happen) and I go to start my car this morning, and no luck. Here's whats going on:

I turn the key, the car starts, and instantly cuts off. It's not the battery, because the engine turns over and actually starts. Rev-ing it has no effect on it what so ever. I pop up the hood and (sorry I don't know terminology very well) the red mesh like hose that goes into my fuel injector is completely broken at the metal part. Another words, the metal piece that sticks out to put the hose onto is broken in half. I believe this has to do with idle (?) but would it also be the reason i'm having problems getting my car started? Also also, how difficult is this to fix, and how screwed am i??

no pic, but i don't think thats the problem, because we plugged up the hole and nothing changed what so ever. It seems to be a fuel issue. The car starts up and immediately dies. not stalls, just shuts off. I seem to have better luck when I hold on the gas while starting it up, but last night that wasn't working at all either. Any one seen this before??
