Default Buying an ITR, what to look for?

Hi guys.

I have the opportunity to look at a Used Type R. 97 in CW no less! What things (beyond the normal stuff) should I be looking out for when specifically inspecting a Type R? Appreciate the help guys!

Start with the basics...
know the car and use this to help http://www.itrca.com/FAQ/faq.php
Now if you are not that much of a wrench head it might be in your best interest to hire a Co. that does inspections on used cars for the prospective buyer.
Here is a Co that offers their service: http://www.pre-checkedautos.com/ I have no idea if they are any good or not. It was the first one I found.
Be smart and shop around for a Co. that offers their service if you choose to go this route. I had a freind a long time ago pruchase this and they found the car was in need of several thound $ to get it road worthy. So he passed on that and got another car that was good.

Good luck.

the history of the car is important and unfortunately not everything is going to be in the dmv documentation. look for signs of welding and maybe places where body parts seem to off or just not fit right. take a good smell of the car's interior...seriously...a mildew smell may be a bad sign. lift up the carpet in the trunk and check for any signs of rear end damage that's been repaired. look for signs of repainting. do a thorough inspection basically and don't buy on impulse, but rather use your time and be mature about it. it isn't the only itr in the world.

Def. Get the vin and run a carfax report, then test drive feel for anything that just doesn't feel right and then take it to a mechanic, if the guy refuses... Dnt buy it. U can always fix it up if you have the kno how and the time but if ur lookin for a dd make sure its up 2 par.

Also get a really good report of the maintenance they've done. Oil changes and filters should have been replaced regularly and the water pump and timing belt should have been replaced if the car has over 80,000 miles. If you're paying top dollar, it better have been babied!

I would also recommend going to an acura parts website http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/home.jsp and plugging in your VIN at the top before buying a car history report. That will let you know if the VIN is properly coded as in ITR. That way you won't get that report just to find out it's fake. Also goto http://www.google.com and search the VIN. Most people will post their car's VIN when they get stolen. If it is reported stolen, don't post here, just call the cops.

Definintely don't rush your decision. Look hard at the underbody especially-ANY dents or scrapes...talk the price down.

Good luck-enjoy
