Default Buying a '94 GS-R

Hey guys, I was thinking to buy a decent teg and found one that has a 120 on the body and 40k mi on the engine which is turboed. The guy says he ran into some problems and needs cash and that's why he's selling it. He's pushing 5 psi and the shop did all the work. He wants $6750 for it. Any suggestions would be great. Should I buy this car? What to look for or what is the best price that this particular car is worth? Thanks in advance.

What kind of problems?

There is no way that you should pay anywhere near that especially with a car that has problems. Unless you are very mechanically inclined, taking on someone else's project is foolish.

I would keep looking.

The car doesn't have any problems. The car is perfect the way it is. All he did was turbo kit but without a boost controller.

Still seems very steep, pricewise. What kind of turbo does he have in there? What is he using for engine management? Until you get some specs on exactly what was done and you think you can tackle someone else's project that may be ghetto rigged to the extreme, look elsewhere.

Alright, thanks for your input. I'll get in touch with him and go take a look at it. Test drive etc. I'll get back to you when I'm done. Thanks again.

Default save yourself alot of money & trouble.

Find a good mechanic and have him go over the car from top to
bottom. If he clears the car great, but I have a funny feeling
that he'll find more than your aware of. It could save you alot of
time, trouble and headache.

I made the mistake of trusting my feelings with a used LS, and it cost
me a bundle to get things straightened out.

Good luck.

I think you may have misread that part, Schmoo?

just do as much homework on the car that you can, and see how much you can have dropped off the price since you know he probably beat the piss out of it.

Good luck either way homie

I don't think I misread it; I think I misinterpreted it.

It can be interpreted as either he ran into problems with the car or problems elsewhere in his life, and I assumed the car had problems.

Either way, I would look elsewhere. Buying a "heavily" modified car like that from someone who can't give you the intimate details about what has been done to the car is just asking for trouble.

Yeah, I know that buying the car that has some engine mods is not smart. However, finding a good GS-R with less then 100k mi on the clock and with my price range is pretty hard. The guy said it has a JDM swapped engine with about 40k mi on it. How close to the truth it is I have no idea, judging from the carfax report that has only 3 records on the car and mind you it's a '94. He wants to put it up on ebay and says that he'll get back to me, doesn't want to set-up a test drive, I'm just going to pass this one up, sound too fishy to me. Thanks guys for all your advice and I'll just keep looking.

Default Gsr?

Good idea. Anyone who will not let you test drive his car, must have much to hide.

Good Luck
