Then inspect each door switch to make sure that the switch pin is extending when the door is opened. Odds are, the switch has simply died and will need replacing. It's a $12 part from the dealer and it will last for another 15 years; the installation is dead easy.

No problem.

Open the door and look at the latch bolt that is attached to the body of the car. Follow that panel down to the floor of the car. On the side of the door jamb, you'll see a rubber-covered switch about the size of a quarter in diameter. That's the cover for the door switch.

The switch points out toward the door and is a simple spring-loaded pin mechanism. When the door is closed, the pin is pushed in toward the center of the car and the circuit is broken. When you open the door, the pin should extend outward and allow the circuit to close, turning the dome light on.

Check to see if the door switch pin can extend and compress. If the pin is stuck or bent, replace the switch. To do so, remove the rubber cover and take out the phillips-head screw(s) that attach the switch to the body of the car. As you pull the switch body out, you'll see a wire attached to the end of the switch body. Keep this wire out because you'll reconnect it to the new switch before reinstalling it and replacing the rubber cover.

Piece of cake.
