1st gear lock out?
It also doesn't have synchros, so you'd need to rev match at low speeds as well.

No no... I don't do that
I'll just coast to a stop light in neutral, and while at a full stop try to put it into 1st and it won't let me... because the gears are still spinning down from lack of resistance by being in a gear???

While at a full stop, it's difficult to put in gear due to lockout/no synchros.

I've noticed the same thing sometimes. 1st and reverse just seem to be fickle
