Default putting cams in

in my manual for cams and timing belt it says that the cylinder needs to be at TDC on the compression stroke and that maes that the valves are all closed right well if so then how do i make it so that they are all closed with the cams both facing with the up arrows pointing up because on mine there is slight touching and it is opening the spring just a little but so if anyone knows how to make it so that all the valves are all closed that would be great thanks

Line the white mark on the crank pulley up with the timing mark on the timing cover. And get a manual.

when you align the white line on the crank with the line on the timing belt cover, as dubcac explained, a couple of the valves will be at least partially open...I've worked in that area twice now (valve lash and timing belt etc replace), and both times, when cylinder 1 is at TDC, some of the valves are gonna be open.

what manual are you using that is saying this?

well as far as I know, some of the valves are gonna be open...I don't know if at any time while the engine is running all 16 valves are closed...just make sure of the aforementioned stuff and make sure you put the new cam gears on the cams and the cams in the head in in the exact same orientation and you should be good.

not all 16 valves are going to be closed, but when you are timing the engine at TDC, it means that the valves are closed on piston #1. Piston #1 is what piston ignites first. No valves are open during the compression stroke, and if there are, then that's some major engine timing problems and valve overlap problems that need to be fixed, may result in bent valves.:eek3:
