is it worth it?

i know this has been pretty much covered but i got an 89 ls integra w/ a jdm b16a1 swap and i have a gsr94. i want to put the gsr head on the ls. i plan on haveing it professionally done. how much more horsepower should i see when this is done. how much will i be spendinng and do you guys think it will be worth it? and should i upgrade the ls tranny to a gsr, would that be better?

Provocateur 01-08-2006 11:11 PM

It will lower compression, so you what it loses in compression, it will make up with the better cams. Definitely not worth it. I like your idea of upgrading the tranny, though.

gsr converters 01-09-2006 12:55 AM

wouldnt be worth it to change the ls to vtec?

sherwood 01-09-2006 04:36 AM

schmoo, wont swaping the pr3 for the p72 raise compression?

and the ls with the swap already has vtec, it's got a b16, it no longer has an LS b18b

if you plan on buying an ls bottom end and putting your gsr head on it, if tuned right you should be looking at around 170-190, but as schmoo and others will tell you i'm sure, boost is by far the best bang for your buck. if you want to be an individual, i'd go N/A with a bored c1 or c5 bottom end and a ported p72 head. upgrade the bolts and pistons add some extra stuff in there and then you should be looking at around 200+WHP of course this will cost around 7-8k to build

I would not start wrenching on the 89 too much. Unless it is fully rebuilt in a lot of aspects. I'm thinking a lot of it still has stock parts on it, that may be original. I use to have an 89 w/a fully built zc motor and tranny. The poor thing started to fall apart from kicking down on the throttle so much. Maybe it will be different for you, but I would advise blowing so much $$$ on an old car that may start giving you problems if you start pushing it. IMO.

Yeah, you are right. I had it backwards. A B16 or B18C5 head will lower the compression when put onto a GSR block.

tegbooster 01-09-2006 09:42 AM

even professionally done... w/ the amount of money you'd end up spending (especially having it done professionally), would mean that you could boost, or have your GSR tranny... personally i think the tranny would be your best spending area right now

thanks for the info. The motor in the ls only has about 30,000 miles on it. Its only a 1.6 non v-tec and it seems like it could beat my gsr which has 133,000 on it. Im selling the ls to a friend and he wanted to know what could be done to make it faster and im getting a c5 for my gsr so i was trying to make use of the old motor.

gsr converters 01-09-2006 05:40 PM

the motor is supposedly pushing 160hp. bought it from noyan usa in virginia

kiddcarbuff 01-09-2006 05:43 PM

All B16 motors are vtec motors.

The Type R motor is insanely overhyped. Rebuild the GSR motor stronger and better and you will save money and be faster than the Type R motor would.

gsr converters 01-09-2006 07:00 PM

the b16 in the ls is not a vtec

gsr converters 01-09-2006 07:03 PM

ill check the number on it and get back but im pretty sure its a b16 unless they lied to me. anyways if they did it was still worth the money i paid. the motor pulls like crazy.

If the motor has 160 hp like you claim, it has vtec. There no stock B series motor without vtec that has that kind of horsepower.

Trust me, all B16 motors have vtec.

gsr converters 01-10-2006 03:18 PM

OK i looked at the motor today and the block says ZC 5620539, what does this mean, I guess it means it is not a b series, but what is it never heard of it b4

sherwood 01-10-2006 03:33 PM

it's a zc, the headswap wont work, and it only has 129 hp (if DOHC) or 120 (if SOHC)
focus on the GSR

gsr converters 01-10-2006 08:28 PM

its dohc and it seems like it has more pull than my gsr up to about 100 then it starts to die off slowly and the accelaration is really great.

gsr converters 01-10-2006 09:04 PM

where did u get your info at? if you could, would you post it for me, not doubting you, just want to see it, ive tried and cant find anything on it and never even heard of a zc

Provocateur 01-10-2006 10:30 PM

The search button is your friend: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...2&postcount=11

In that post: D16A8/A9 (ZC)- DOHC non-VTEC Japan-spec CRX
