Default Where does this go??

What is this and where does it go?

This was in my baggie of bolts for the camshaft holders (tore everything apart to replace the headgasket). It is 10mm long and diameter looks to be 7mm. It's slightly smaller that camshaft holder dowels, and I've got all of those in place. There's only one of these but I can't seem to find a logical place for it to go. The shiny machined look tells me it's very necessary, so I don't wanna go to far without it.

It looks like some kind of alignment pin.

that's what I was thinking, but can't find the place where it logically fits in.

it goes on the top of the block. It keeps the head in place when your reinstalling it. There should be 2. rear left and rear right.

Those are where the head alignment dowels go, and I've already installed them. They are a lot larger that what I have left over.

sometimes the dowel pins stick. meaning that if someone was to buy a head....maybe that head would have zero, one or two pins still in it. your block would have the zero, one, or two pins still in it. so you could have zero alignment pins (if you junked your old head or whatever) all the way up to four pins. your fine with just the two and that is all you need. junk , keep or sell extra

turns out to be the dowel pin that goes under the center cam cap. don't know how I missed that. Argh!
