Distributor cap and rotor keeps going bad...

Hmm, that is strange that my mech. told me it wasn't the correct one. I appreciate you checking for me, that's one less thing I need to worry about.
What I meant by the cap and rotor burning up was that they are going bad. I didn't mean it literally. I'm gonna take the cap off on Wednesday to check it out and I'll get some pics then.

So I pulled the cap off today. It looked brand new, of course. Being that it has only been on there for a few months, I'm not surprised. I tried driving the car today and that was a joke. I'd crank the car up, it would idle for like 15 seconds, then it would just shut off. I didn't rev teh engine or anything, and its not like it sputtered off, it just shut off like I turned the key off or something. So, I'm debating on either taking the car in to another shop, or just getting a new distributor....unless someone can think of something I should check before I do.

I would test the coil and igniter before you go and get a new distributor.

that sounds like typical igniter problems. or possibly main relay. do a search and you'll find 100 threads with the same symptoms, the solution to all of them is the igniter.

Just wanted to post an update to this siuation as I finally fixed the car about a week ago. All you guys that said the problem was the igniter were absolutely correct. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
