Im buying cams tonite for a 97 gsr and wanted to see a few pictures of a b18c with the valve cover off. Close ups would be nice How long should it take to replace just the cams? Also, do you think its imperative to go from a gsr to itr valvetrain with skunk2 stage 1 cams? Thanks in advance HAN homies

You dont have to upgrade your valvetrain if you're just going w/ stg 1 cams. However, it could never hurt. IMO, I would go with Crower all the way.

reason i asked was because my buddy had a b16 with ctr cams, and dropped a valve in vtec It'd be nice not to spend the extra $100 for springs/retainers BUT if its suggested then why not. 100 now is a lot easier than a dropped valve later!

It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Although, that problem could have been caused by the person who installed them improperly, or just simply bad luck.

this and this should give you a decent idea as to what it's gonna look like.

are you gonna know what to do once you take everything apart, and what you're gonna need to take apart?

yup. ive done a few engines, just not a dohc. I just wanted to take a peek under there so i knew what i was gonna see when i pull the cover. Just preparing myself I think the hardest part is figuring out the adjustable cam gears.

i had skunk2 stage 1 cams in my 01 gsr, u don't need to upgrade your valvetrain if yor not planning to go over your 8k redline..

I would invest in a Helms manual. A few closeups won't help with the actual procedure. You have to make sure the timing is dead on and the belt is tight before you put everything back together.

And if you keep the stock GSR redline, stock GSR springs will be fine.
