Default Modified exhaust?

no this isnt a question about what exhaust i should get

just recently my bro got a fix-it ticket for having what the police said was a "modifed exhaust". now im second guessing whether or not i should change the exhaust on my car. i did some reacher and on some forums some said that its not illegal as long as it had a certain decibal level (loundess); but the cop never said anything about the decibal level of his exhaust, just the fact that it was modified?

so whats the deal?

You can definitely get a ticket for your exhaust being too loud. It's pretty much up to the cop and what he thinks is "too loud"

Ive never heard anything about getting a ticket just because the exhaust is not stock. Then again, you live in Cali and their rules are lame as fuck. I live in FL where dont have Smog and all that other bullshit.

Where have you been living? I know tons of people this has happened to. There used to be a loophole in the state vehicle code stating that any exhaust that was modified from stock was not legal. This was changed by the state a few years ago, making exhausts that were over a 95 decibel level from a certain distance from the exhaust tip to be illegal. However, if the cop thinks your exhaust is too loud, he can ticket you for it still, but you can get it decibel tested and then fight it in court...or put on a stock exhaust, get it signed off, and put the other one back on.

I seriously think he just meant it was too loud, unless they still have this law Dubac is talking about.

Like I said before, you have two options:

1. Get it decibel tested somewhere, and if it's under 95dB, go to court and fight it.

2. Replace it with a stock exhaust, get the ticket signed off, then put the aftermarket exhaust on again.
