Default D4 light blinking on dashboard

Something seems to be wrong with my car - '94 Integra LS Auto. The first thing I noticed was the D4 light (on the thing that shows you what gear your in) was blinking, even if I put it in 3rd. Also, the needle on the speedometer wasn't working. A while later the check engine light also came on. However, everything else seems to be fine. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm going to go look up anything I can but if someone could help I'd appreciate that.

Grab the CEL code and we'll do what we can to help.

That link shows how to jump the CEL terminal and retrieve the code.

This link shows the OBD-1 codes for your vehicle. Look up the CEL code on this chart and get back to us.

I'm getting 1 long blink, then 7 short, then followed by another 6 short, so I'm guessting VSS and ECT. Any ideas other than having my mechanic check it out?

I figured that the Vehicle Speed Sensor might be a part of this.
Either the signal from the VSS isn't making it to the ECU or the sensor itself is dead.
My money is on the sensor.

Coolant temp, though... That's odd...
Has the coolant temp "gauge" been erratic or non-responsive? Is the coolant level within the normal range?

It seems to be fine. It didn't work when I got the car but that was due to a falty thermostat. Once I got that replaced the gauge has always been a little below the middle when the car is warmed up. The coolant level was also within the normal range last time I checked it (no more than a month ago).

I think I'm going to take this to my mechanic tomorrow and see what he says. Does anyone know how much the sensors are at an Acura dealership?
