Discussion: Upgrading B18B1
We have a 2001 Integra that started as an LS. It's been completely stripped and rebuilt for enduros/road courses. Evyerthing on the car is slightly upgraded if not more except the engine.
We had planned to build a B18C5 for this season but cooked the engine at the last race last year because somone messed up when we were building it. We built up a new B1 for this season cause it's easy and cheap, no reason to risk a more expensive engine on rookie mistakes.
Getting to the point, its built up with slightly better compression with newer pistons and rods, 10.5 to 1, mostly for reliability in endurance races. Otherwise, stock crank, new injectors but stock size, 66mm throttle body (6mm more than stock) with bored out intake manifold, new valve springs and retainers (slightly stiffer than stock but pretty much the same), headers with straight pipes, and AEM cold air intake. Also running hondata.
In total its absolutely basic. I have 2 points.
1. We've thought of skipping VTEC and just going with a hotter cam and bigger injectors, essentially giving us the VTEC cam profile in the full range. It would be much cheaper since we'd need to build a C5 from the ground up. Does anyone agree?
2. Besides the cam, am I right in saying theres not much that can be done to the engine to increase hp? Bigger injectors and a better intake wouldn't do much without a different cam profile so theres not much reason to upgrade anything else.
What's everyone's thoughts on this? Keeping in mind the idea would be to get that extra 30-50 hp without sacrificing reliability.

We have an integra we built for enduros. We are running a B1 completely rebuilt with better pistons and rods for reliability and a slight boost in compression ratio. Almost every other part on it is new but also stock spec. Injectors, cams, crank all new but stock. 66mm throttle body (6mm more than stock) with bored intake manifold and AEM intake, stiffer valve springs and better head studs, headers and straight pipe.
