overheating head unit
2000 Integra GS...30k miles.
Anyway, after driving for about 35-40 minutes and listening to a CD I can feel the factory headunit and its very hot to the touch, sometimes to the point where I can even leave my finger on it. If I eject a CD it's usually very hot too. Also, ocassionally Iv'e had a CD start skipping from the heat.
Anybody experienced this or know what it is? I'm going to take it to the acura guys but I just wanted to know beforehand if mabie their was something I could do to fix it.
Thanks as always guys.

I think that is just how higher end HU's work...my friend has the same problem...nice HU usually just draw a lot of current so I mean, in all actuality it would make sense for them to heat up.
I suppose it could be worth asking one of the acura guys; but like I said, I think it might just be normal.

Yeah, i have JVC's top of the line deck (the MP3 one) and it does heat up a lot and skip after 4-5 hours. I drive 30,000 miles a year, and that is a problem, just buy a 12v case fan from a computer store and mount it about a quarter inch off the top of your headunit, if you want to get crazy (i did), run some 3 inch flexhose into the passenger footwell, hell my girlfriends are always cold anyway
its normal....stock or aftermarket...
i use to have my car sit in 90-100 degree weather for an afternoon, coming hope the CD gets hot as fawk...
but it never skipped on my pioneer or clarion deck...just the sony one.
