why do I have to rev my engine to set the idle???

check your IAC valve, see if its dirty or plugged up and check if its getting voltage with a voltmeter if u have one

are you running a stock ecu? Some ecu's will advance or retard the timing and this may be your problem....jsut a guess

had the same problem in my mazda a few years back...turned out to be a misfire...happened again 2 months later .... my ECU was fried...might wanna get it checked out
