Default 98-01 Integra Hatch release question, how it works?

My integra is an 01 and should come with the hatch release lever in the hatch. It doesn't have one cuz I guess the hatch was replaced with an older one after an accident. Well anyways I want to put this release back in and I don't know how it works. Does the lever pull a cable or is it a switch. All I know is that the doors have to be unlocked for the lever to work and that this part of the system is still in my car. I've searched thru alldata for a little bit and couldn't find out too much. Any help on how the lever works would be great. thanks

The is a lever under the hatch that engages an actuator which then pulls a metal rod that releases the locking mechanism. It is not a cabel like the older modles. Not sure how you can get around this. See if the attached image can help
