Default What Are Typical ITR Problems to Watch For?

Hey all,

I'm taking an ITR I'm interested in to my mechanic on Tuesday... can you give me an idea of typical ITR problems to watch for? I've heard the tranny is an expensive beast to replace -- do they have a tendency to die young?

Any advice on specific things to check out would be great. Thanks!

Tranny dies young if you beat the crap out of them.

There are no real common problems with it mechanically, just check for it being wrecked and see how much oil it burns (it'll burn)

It tends to be a target for thieves as well.

Yeah, if everything checks out a nice alarm will be my first investment. Any suggestions on alarms?

And is a nice alarm just not enough? Do I need to get The Club too, or something like that?

The club is worthless, too easy to cut the steering wheel, one of those locks for the brake is better, my buddy has The Lawman, which seems good.

All ITRs consume some oil, some are worse than others. Also 3rd gear synchro grind. When you test drive the car, make sure you do some near- redline shifts into 3rd to make sure there is no grind. A new transmission is only $1700, so it's not too bad to replace, ask me how I know

hadn't heard about a water pump issue..

but yeah, they like to eat tranny synchros if they've been run hard a lot.. brake fluid reservoir cap fails.. those are the only "typical" things I can think of, aside from burning oil..
