You sound confused.

Note down your Vehicle Identification number.

Go to the Integra FAQ thread (use the link in my signature) and use the tech info to clarify whether your car:

a) started out life as a non-VTEC Integra (JH4DC4 / DB7 ) and inherited a GSR drivetrain.
b) started out life as a bona fide GSR (JH4DC2/ DB8) and has been neutered.

In any event, it sounds like this car was modified by the previous owner.

Honda did not install a "VTEC light" on the Integra GSR or any other VTEC-motored vehicle.

the first 5 of my vin# is JH4DC... but the vtech light is in the instrument panel and when it gets to 5000 rpm the light comes on and you can hear the engine making a louder noise like its taking off or something then you have to shift...

First off... slow down and compose your thoughts into one post, please.
Secondly, it's spelled VTEC. No "H".

What's the sixth digit?
If it's a "2" you've got a true GSR coupe.
If it is a "4" you have bought an non-VTEC Integra (probably an LS or GS; the RS did not come with a sunroof nor ABS)

but the vtech light is in the instrument panel and when it gets to 5000 rpm the light comes on and you can hear the engine making a louder noise like its taking off or something then you have to shift..
Again, the VTEC light was not a stock feature. The sound you're hearing at 5000 rpm is likely the "secondary" intake manifold runners opening.

Odds are you've got a real GSR and not a swap. But the sixth VIN digit will tell all.

I'd take some time to do a few searches and read the Integra FAQ. It will help you start to grasp the basics of modifying and maintaining an Integra.

Yes, sort of. You don't modify the LS motor, however.
I'm talking about replacing it with the GSR motor.

Since the dimensions are the same, the GSR drivetrain will bolt into any second or third Gen Integra with stock mounts, and with a bit of work, into 92-00 Civics. But that's a topic to be covered in our Hybrid forum... not here.

Hahahahahaha "Vtech Mode" Oh man.

Look at your Motor and read the Stamp on the Block.

Then look at the Head and see if there is a Vtec Solenoid.

You answer should be there. Look for B18c1.....
