Gauge Pod Cracks, Odometer, & Sunroof Questions
I returned the ITR I purchased last week (story is here), but the shop has another one that looks to be in much better condition... pristine original paint, very clean engine compartment and underside, west-coast car, nice clean interior, no hack wiring, original body panels, etc.
Before I take it to my mechanic to get checked out, I have three quick questions I'd be grateful for some help on though:
1) Both ITRs I've seen from this shop have small cracks in the faux carbon fiber gauge pod, right at the thinnest points separating the actual circular gauges. Is this a common problem? I asked one of the guys there about it and he said that it's probably just a weak point in the case that's predisposed to crack over time. I specifically asked about the possibility of an odometer rollback relation with the cracks, and the guy said "Quite honestly, there just wouldn't be a point to cracking it... you access the odometer from the rear of the pod, not the front." Any thoughts?
2) Related to the odometer thing, the car's odometer shows around 32k miles, but a CarFax report shows that a "not actual mileage" title was issues when the car was issued the California salvage title for theft damage. (The shop specializes in Honda/Acura theft recovery and restorations.) Are there any telltale indicators I can look at that would give me at least an idea if the odometer is close? How can you tell if the odometer stops working or is stolen, etc? It looks clean enough that it could be close, but... ?
3) The ITR I'm looking at has a sunroof... was this a dealer option at any time, or would it have to be aftermarket? Are these typically problematic?
Thanks again for all the help... much appreciated!

Considering trouble you had with the first car and things sounding a little shady with the other car ... I'd say avoid buying anything else from these guys. There's plenty of ITRs around for sale. Check www.itrca.com if you haven't already.
