Default Might be a new member to the Honda family

I'm doing some work this summer for my dad and i've been talking to him about getting me a 2nd car. I'm talking like dirt cheap $600 1990 - 1993 integra that i want to turn into a track car to give my BMW a little break from my right foot.

Ive been looking around in my local autotrader type stuff to see what i can find and i've found a few that fit my criteria.

First questions would be doing a head gasket job. I'm not sure how technical this forum is, but does doing a head job/ gasket replacement as a DIY at home mechanic (im 20 but have done everything that has broke on my 5er in the past 3 years) seem feasable?

Also, I was wondering what is involved in adding V-Tech to lets say a GS (that i'm assuming does not come with Vtech, its only the GSRs that have them correct?)

If I went to a junk yard and found an engine with V-Tech on it, would it be as simple as pulling the head off the engine and grabbing some electronics like the ECU out of said car and swapping it into my non V-tech'd car?

I'm very excited about entering into the Japanese car arena and hopefully will have one within a month or so.

Also, any thought on the integra vs like the CRX Si or the Prelude Si? They are all pretty much the same engines with different bodies correct?

Thanks guys,

~Andrew

HONDAS are all HOme DIY cars. It's called VTEC. V-TECH is a phone company. I figured I'd tell you that b4 people start joking on you. You can grab a VTEC head and slap it on. Just install an oil line to the head from the block and that's about it then run your 3 vtec lines and your good to go.

Default Thanks guys

I was just doing some reading in the search bar on the 'vtec' (no H this time, haha ) and ended up getting side tracked on like intake stuff and some big discussion about swapping motors for the Type R, and he used 'vtech' all the time and just couldn't get it right after everyone had corrected him on it. I dshould have searched first before making that noobish mistake, but i guess i can do that on post #1 haha.

My friend has a 2002 RSX type-S that we made a --what i think-- nice injen intake that cost me about $20 after getting the cone filter for free, i'll have to get some pics of it when he gets back from vacation and a movie of it driving, that thing is loud as shit when he hits vtec

And i do have a vtech phone at home, its a piece of shit so i wouldn't want those two connected to the phone

Also, before i forget, are they arny common problems with an old integra that I should look for in buying a $600 integra, aside from the normal wear and tear that would make the car $600. I'm guessing most of the broken parts i can pull from a pick and pull junk yard and get her running real nice.

Well with a $600 car there will always be hinden problems. But then again you never know you might just get a great running car. Most common non modded cars will have the valve cover gasket busted and it will leak oil and the owner will just keep adding oil thinking it's cheap. Umm Axels. maybe the front mount might be shot. Little bs things nothing big.

you make it sound waaaay too easy. a head just bolted onto the block like that isnt gonna last long, especially if this guy wants to turn it into a track car.

first i suggest you read the integra faqs to get yourself more acquainted with tegs: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...d.php?t=179419

second, what kind of track car? drag? auto-x? what's your budget? you can build a mean all motor monster or a turbo beast.

Thanks for the info on the tegs, and i'm thinking of doing track day events on road courses and maybe getting into the SCCA type races? My budget is really hceap so thats why i want something that i can work on myself and the parts arnt all that expensive.

I dont really want a mean motor and all that, just something that has some power and can turn. Turbo is out of the budget by a lot cause i still have maintain my BMW

Well If your budget is at the 5g level then I would get the stock block redone and buy a head and get some nice valves ect. I would go with ITR cams because they go for around $300-350 depending on where and how long you hole out. There also the best cams you can buy for your money. Ohh and if you do get them and don't have enough to do your valves ect there still good cause they will not ware out your springs, vales, ect. I know I know Im talking to much but hey just trying to help. You have a mill and one ways to go about seting up your motor. Go to search up on top and type in "setup" and you will probably find a crap load of people who post about there swaps and that can give you a better idea of what you wanna do. Goodluck.
