Engine Planning
Got tired of my friends having all the fun so I just bought a project 98 ITR with 125k miles.
The engine already needs a seal replaced (head gasket or piston ring) and I wouldn't feel safe racing it until I either rebuild it or build a new one. I figure since I have to get it apart now anyways for the seal, I may as well see what else I can do with it.
I'm trying to decide what set-up I am going to do. I know turbo isn't good with the compression but if I were to get new pistons, crank and valvetrain I could lower the compression, right? Would this be better than an all-engine set-up (possibly stroker with a JR super charger?- if that's possible).
What is the most turbo boost I could run on the stock compression?
Is it possible to boost a stroker ITR engine with decent reliability (Probably super charger)?
This car will be mostly for racing, but needs to be fairly reliable (I dont have money for a buildup AND a new engine). Once I get better at it, I won't have a problem with tearing the engine apart 2-3 times a year to keep it running.
Pretty much open to all ideas, would like to start soon-please help!

an itr should be kept NA. many here will agree with me on that. sure you can boost it if you want, but the sound of a NA honda engine revving to 9k is music to my ears.
h:
personally i would do a setup like this:
ported and polished head
ported stock intake manifold
65mm tb
j's racing copy intake
hytech header and exhaust
RM m22xx cams with valvetrain
stock valves
stock overbored headgasket
aem ems or hondata
b18 block
benson's sleeved
balanced, blueprinted
85mm bore
89mm stroke stock ls crank
11.5:1 cr
carillo rods
stock tranny and lsd
7.5 lb flywheel
action 1md clutch
should be good for about 220-230whp and plenty reliable if taken care of properly. it will be pretty expensive though.

Thanks a lot for the quick response! Just to let you know, I am extremely drunk right now so please excuse mistakes. I like your taste in engines, though...you seem to be on the same level I am (Not in 40oz.) :-)
I always liked the idea of an all-motor type-R engine and it makes sense with the high compression B-18C5 engine. What I was mostly wondering is would it be possible to stroke and supercharge a type-r engine? When it comes to a decision between the two, I would wrather do a stroker kit, non turbocharged... with a supercharger.
By a stroked engine with supercharger I mean the stroker kit, and cised valvetrain and cam and piston/rings to handle the boost.
In addition to that (stroked and supercharged type-r motor), would it be possible to spray a stroker all-motor engine? Possibly 50-100 HP?
Thanks a lot, look forward to the resp onse.
BTW, if you want to buy offroad MT/R 33x12.5 tires or 98 ITR wheels, let me know-I am selling them on eBay for DIRT CHEAP.
THANKS!

sure you can stroke it and s/c it. that would make for some nice torque. but i would rather bore it out than stroke it for increased displacement. or do both. :rick: i wouldnt do a s/c either. if you are going to boost get a turbo. you can spray nitrous but it would depend on your c/r and tuning.
