Default A/C Compressor/clutch replacement?

O.K....as a newbie, forgive....I'm in a 92 Teg RS, been w/o a/c for 2 years now since compressor/clutch burned up in Dallas, now in Oklahoma with kids. Have recently purchased used compressor from used distributor which should work ok when installed. I can and will do all parts install, will buy new receiver/dryer, will buy/replace all new O-rings, will have pros blow/vac system to clean/test. Cuz there's probably alot of metal shaving crud throughout system, what else would I NEED to do/check/replace? Can I "blow out" crud from condenser with air compressor? If so, what fittings would be needed for that? I'm pretty sure my system is R-12, and with future expense in mind, what is best conversion plan? I've heard R134a sucks.....I've heard Duracool hydrocarbon could be fantastic....but mostly I'm concerned about evacuating, replacing, charging, and testing, then having missed replacing a necessary part which would sandbag the whole system. Any thoughts? Greatly appreciated
