Default type r or not a type r

Was up I need some help. I just bought a b16 motor and it soupposedly has a type R head on it. How do I find out if there is any truth in this? A friend of mine told me there is no codes and the only way to find out it to take the cams out and measure them. Is this right? If so what are the measurments? Thanks

the b16 and type r head are the same head so the only way to tell is the dual valve springs and retainers and vlaves the cams will also have two lips on the end instead of the 3 like gsr also itr heads have different manifolds and port and polish job's

On the front of the head above the exhaust manifold you will see code stamped onto it, look for PR3.

This narrows it down to B16A or B18C5.

ITR head is port & polished and the valvetrain is different.

ITR's come with dual intake/exhaust springs, B16A's have single exhaust valve springs.
