Loose steering
My car (97 Teg LS) has very loose steering. By that i mean when i am driving down the highway at around 70 (at slower speeds too but 70 just for example) you can move the wheel back and forth quite a bit with no reaction by the car. I just sold my 92 Prelude (which is a fairly similar car) that i have driven for 7 years so i dont think its just a matter of what i am used to. I took it to my mechanic but he doesnt do much suspension work. But he said he check tie rods and ends, and boots and they all looked good. ANy ideas what might be causing this?
I would first say tie rod ends, but you say they're OK.
Check the alignment. A misaligned car can do some funny things.
It's kinda odd for a rack-and-pinion steering system to do this with good tie rod ends though, this is more of a recirculating ball steering problem.

What would it be if there was a popping sound piercedone? Please email me at metal1399@neo.rr.com and let me know because my car might be doing this. Thanks, Paul
