That was the same for me the first two years I owned my '99 GS. I got damn tired of it and wanted it to work the way it is supposed to work, so I bought the part and did the repair.

I must be missing something. How are our hatches supposed to work? I dont have a cable release or anything. Is it supposed to unlock when I unlock my doors?

There are a couple of ways to unlock the hatch IF your hatch actuator is working properly:

- push/toggle the interior lock control up... this unlocks both doors and the hatch.

- From the outside of the car, turn the key clockwise in the drivers door lock and hold for a couple of seconds. First the manual lock mechanism on the driver's door unlocks, then the electric locks kick in and unlock both doors and hatch.

- From the rear end of the car, turn the key clockwise in the hatch lock. The electric lock mechanism will unlock both doors and the hatch.

- Press the unlock button TWICE on the keyless entry remote. this will unlock both doors and the hatch.

Once you have activated the electric lock to unlock boths doors and the hatch with one of the above described methods, you should then be able to just move the lever hidden under the handle of the hatch lid to the right to unlatch the hatch.

If your hatch won't open at this point then you probably have a dead actuator.

I hope this helps,

JD

A hidden lever? IMA GO LOOK FOR IT! LOL. And this is for ALL 94-01's??

Oh yea, all that electric crap still works, like when i turn the key it unlocks my doors, but when I unlock my doors it does not unlock my hatch...at least to the best of my knowledge...

also on the keyless entry remote that is OEM correct?

Okay I'm just really really newb and never realized that black rubber thing was a lever to open it. Everything works as you described 99IntegraGS except I have to manually push the lever back to the right after its open or my hatch wont close. Is that normal too? /newb

No, not on all G3's, just 98-01. If you are 94-97 I don't think you have an electric hatch lock... just the cable lever system by the driver's seat.

The keyless entry mention was indeed OEM keyless entry/alarm system.

Are you pushing it back immediately after opening the hatch? Try leaving it alone when you open the hatch, seconds after I raise my hatch I hear the lever switch back into the position that will allow me to close the hatch.

I just went out and tried that and no it does not return to the original position automatically. Also another thing is if I close the hatch I can't open it again without "re"unlocking my doors.

In any case its way more convenient than the two hand open (especally with groceries) so thanks for all your help. To the OP sorry for hijacking :P
