Default Bad engine... need advice...

Well i just heard from the mechanic that my engine is pretty much shot... has some major cracks in it. So im gonna have to get another engine. Ive been looking on www.osakajdmmotors.com and they have some type R's for 3950-4200$ (depending on year) Just wondering how those prices sound to you guys. Also since i have the choice.. instead of the type R engine would you guys recommend me replacing it with something else. Since ive driven my Type R so much i dunno if i can put anything else in there and be happy with it. But im open for suggestions. Anyways thanks for any input.

Those prices are normal. You may want to use a different motor depending on your goals. What do you use the car for and what do you want out of it?

well i do drive quite a bit for work so i put alot of miles on my car. i was very happy with what i had in there before it blew. I hadn't planned on doing any other engine work or anything as far as performance goes. Are those engines not very good for reliability?

No, they are fine. Well I've never dealt with Osaka but I'm sure you can find info on their motors, but in general the B18C Spec-R/B18C5/etc is a fine motor reliability wise. I just meant that if you want a motor with 230whp you might want to look into different options.

oh ok i see what you mean. But ya i was just content with what i had. The engine that was in there was a US version of the R it wasnt the JDM spec. Are they about the same performance wise?

There are some differences, it's easiest to buy a USDM motor, JDM isn't a hard swap but a little more involved. On the plus side you'll get higher compression..

seems like www.osakajdmmotors.com has the best prices ive found on the net. As far as more involved do you just mean with like the wiring or are the mounts and stuff not going to be the same?

do you have to replace the entire engine? if not, i would just look into getting another block and rebuilding that or doing the same for the head.
