Throttle body spacers? Votex? Helix?
OBX (product name "Votex") and another company (product name "Helix Power Tower") make a 1" throttle body spacer that is supposed to increase air speed and create a swirling air affect to enhance combustion. Both companies have Dyno results. [This is not the TORNADO I'm talking about that mounts on the air intake so don't get your man-panties in a wad and start spouting.]
My actual question: Does this work? At all? If not, why would OBX make it? And, why does it seem to sell reasonably well? Better mpg? More HP? Better combustion?

Any info, experience, links, etc., greatly appreciated.

NO! These throttle body spaces are designed to help CARBURETED domestic motors get the swirling air into the cylinders.
our intake manifolds dont even need it.

I would hazzard to guess from your background that you know what your saying, but is there some imperical data out there? Research? A government white paper somewhere that says "while cool, these are for domestic naturally aspirated cars and not for the import market." I believe you LT, but I like data. So, if'n iz out there......

Unfortunately you can't extrapolate it to the type of induction we have since a the thickness of the spacer doesn't add enough length to the intake ram tube on a single plenum system to make a difference.

Those things suck ass dude. Don't buy it and save your money. The theory is good, but the reality is it does not work like they say. I know first hand cause I bought one and then I sent the POS back for a refund.

Cool, thanks LT (and tuan) for the fact/knowledge based quote, good stuff, exactly what I needed to hear. Knowing this, why then would OBX make this for the import market? Aren't they be worried about their rep?
