timing question
I've got a 91 teg, and the timing belt snapped not long ago. The valves bent, and I just finished replacing the head. Anyway, I replaced the distributor in the exact same spot it was before the timing belt broke. I could tell by the dirt vs. the clean spot on the distributor mount. I was expecting to have to adjust the timing, but when I got everything together, it ran great, with no problems (aside from a vacuum leak which didn't take me long to find). The engine sounds fine, and there is no pinging that I can tell.
My question is, should I have the timing re-callibrated? I don't have a timing gun, and I've never used one before, so it would be a first. I am just worried - I don't want to run it long with the timing off, not knowing it and end up ruining my engine. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.
