timing question
how much is typical for advancing the timing on a gsr? my friend that is goin to help me do my cams said with my mods he would advance it 18 degrees so my cams could get more use than with the stock timing.. for some reason when he said that it seemed a little much. what is the usual for these mods: ( and i know every motor is different, i just want a ball park figure)
96 gsr motor with basic boltons
not in car yet:
2001 jdm itr cams
itr valve springs
in car now:
short ram intake
oem jdm 4-1 header
full 2.5 exhaust
FPR set at like 50 psi right now
vafc 2, but left at stock settings(probably set vtec right around 5400-5600 rpm when cams are in)

I would probably go to around 20, as long as you don't detonate. BTW, he's not talking about advancing your timing 18 degrees, just going up to 18...which is a 2 degree change from the stock timing.
