Default Head mods...what about block

We all have heard plenty about head mods with porting and polishing and shaping valves. I know about cam shafts, valve springs, pistons and rods. Is there anything that can be done with the block itself? Or is it just a hunk of metal to hold it all together?

Thanks

You can do tons of stuff to the block like boring it out, sleeving it, installing new pistons, rods, stroker kits, etc.
