Yeah cams shouldn't be considered a bolt on affair in my opinion.
Cams should be tuned so that the maximum power potential can be achieved, I would imagine. Wideband tuning should be considered to tweak the air/ fuel ratio.
If you don't have the time then maybe you shouldn't bother with it.

been there done that
if you want drop in cams then itr/ctr with some adjustable cam gears are really your only choice. you can run them on the stock valvetrain as long as you dont go above the stock rev limit. and you'll need a vafc at the least for tuning.

Ok... well I want different cams, already own a set of adjustable cam gears, and dont mind taking a free saturday to spend at a place having them tune it. Like I said, I had an 88 GT Mustang and 89 SC so Im used to pushrods, old skool tricks, and old fashioned techniques, as well as 5000rpm redlines.
This GSR is almost entirely foreign to me. I mean I understand the concept of VTEC and dual overhead cams and 16 valve heads. Its just that I dont have common experience with them. But I guess maybe changing cams will throw me headfirst into gettting familiar with her.
Can I advance my timing with the stock cams and gears? If so, how do I go about doing it?

been there done that
dont mess with the timing with the stock cams. they're fine where they're at.
if you want a solid street cam i recommend the buddy club III+ with matching valvetrain.

How hard is it to swap out the valves and other valvetrain components? So figure like 400 for cams and another 300 for v-train components? Im assuming I should get another throttle body and airflow sensor.
