Default GSR with P28?!

Hey, I just went to swap out the "Skunk2 Tuned" ECU in my '94 GSR with a stock p72 ecu that I just got off ebay. The previous owner of the car had told me it was programmed by Skunk2, and it was running the car...I was like ok, whatever. I just figured I would eventually just swap in a stock one anyway. Well the ECU in my car looked like it may have been tuned by Skunk2 but it definitely wasn't a p72! It was a p28-AO2! What the hell is that about? On the back of it, someone had written "1994 Civic Ex 5-Speed". The guy I bought this car off of last September was very shady. I guess that'll teach me to look at all the details before I just jump into something...Any ideas what this is all about? The car has been running ok I guess with it in there. A bit rich, and vtec doesn't come on until the secondaries opened up. But is this a very common ECU swap or what? I just hope the new ECU I got isn't bs either.

the p28 is a common ecu swap. the p28 doesnt control the secondaries like the p72. the one you had probly just had one of those generic ebay skunk2 chips. you say you were running rich and vtec was at 5800. sounds like it to me. sell it and get as far away from it as you can.

Are you saying that my secondaries were never opening up and only vtec was kicking in? I'm not really sure if it was legit or not. It had a Skunk2 Sticker on the front of it with someone's personal info that looked like maybe it had been sent to them and was the real deal or something. I donno. Also, I just purchased what I believe is a P72. But of course, I bought this one off ebay,so who knows. It has no serial number on it. Only a label someone made that says JDM Integra GSR ECU (Obd1). What do you think I should do about this new ECU. Here is a link to the ebay auction (even though it is of course over now, since I won it). Ebay Auction Think I should contact the seller and try to get my money back or what? Would a JDM ECU even work properly with my car? According to my vtec light, vtec now engages at 5000 rpm with this new ecu...

I wish...Ok, a few things. I can't really tell that if it is running any better. There almost seems to be a sort of "hesitation" when vtec kicks in at 5000 rpm. The fact that it engages at 5000 rpm instead of 4400 should be a good indication that this is NOT a stock ECU from a '95 GSR like the ebay seller had listed right? Anyway, I think I know why my secondaries aren't opening up. After doing a search, I found this post:

Well, after thinking about it for a minute, I just realized that something had always looked different on my IM compared to my friend's '99 GSR. And I think I finally figured it out. I am pretty sure that I have NO dashpot assembly. It is missing completely from my manifold! Can someone please verify this?

you can see the dashpot in this diagram:

you clearly do not have it on your manifold.

Yeah...so what can I do now? What all would I need to get to fix this problem? Should I just buy another GSR IM for cheap, or try to track down parts individually? How much do Skunk2 IM's go for? Thanks for all the help. Does anyone else have any input?

if you have plans for more mods in the future, now is the time to replace the manifold. skunk2 or blox they're both the same. or the aebs piece as well.

I am really debating on whether or not to keep this car. I mean, I think it's a great car and I have big plans for it. But there just seems to be more and more stuff popping up. Like issues with the ECU. And the manifold. And my chattering clutch. And the fact that there are sensors and plugs that I noticed the other day that aren't hooked up that should be. Very frustrating...Any prices on Skunk2 IM or good places to purchase from?

The skunk 2 intake manifold is hot, I have one, and I was told it's a type-r intake manifold with an improved 4th runner over the type-r one. The ecu you have is very nice. You need it retuned for your aplication. It was tuned for a differnt car with prob a different set up. i have a p28 obd1 ecu with hondata, and with my tuneing it would be worthless in anyone elses car.

Originally i had my vtec set at 4500 rpm, then i put in skunk 2 stage 2 cams and had to change my engagement to 5500 rpms. Originally i was useing a 98 stock obd2 gsr ecu. How much did you pay for that ecu? Do you have a shop that can open it up and look at the chip, and tune it on a dyno for you?
