type R cams
Hey everyone, I have a '94 GSR that currently has b16 cams in it.(Read here for more info on that) It had type R cams in it when I bought the car, but after a "situation" I had to swap in the Si cams. Anyway, I know the car has dual valve springs on i/e, but I was wondering if I need to upgrade any other part of the valve train to put the type R cams back in? Or will my stock valves/retainers/etc. be ok? I don't really trust the previous owner's work, so that's why I am asking about the valvetrain. He seemed to like to cut corners..Anyway, thanks in advance for any info. I am hoping to do the swap this week.
I don't have the best knowledge of the cams and retainers, but from what I understand is that you should just change the retainers and springs if you're going to rev it in the higher RPM range if you install the Type-R cams. Can anyone confirm?!
You can use the Type R cams just fine on OEM springs and retainers, as long as you keep the stock redline...don't go past 8200. If you actually have aftermarket springs and retainers, you can go higher than 8200.

Make sure the timing is correct, and you should be ok...they aren't aggressive enough to warrant tuning IMO.

U may need to get it dyno tunned, with some sort of ECU up grade, but i read a sheet on dyno with gsr motors with Type R cams, and SKunk2 cams, and u get more power with the skunk2 cams, ( Skunk2 intake, SKunk2 cams, Comptech headers, Comptech ice box, apexi n1) [i have to get it dyno tunned and upgrade the ECU or get a VAFC]
