Default oil spill under the hood !!!

Hi there,

I know this is stupid but I forgot to put my engine oil cap on and actually drove 20 miles before I realized what I did.

Of course, some oil got spilled on the engine block, ... .I simply wiped everything out with some paper towel.

Should I be using a special solution? What happens if I do not clean any further?

Thanks

Vani

besides the mess, there should be no problems. make sure to check the oil level though, to be sure that you didn't lose too much.

simple green on rag would not be a bad idea. just make sure you use a damp cloth after you use the simple green.

If it's bad just go to the car wash and pressure spray the area that has oil on it.

Gah! :eek3: Be careful about high pressure water and all the electrical componentry under the hood.

I wouldn't pressure wash the engine unless it's dead cold and the alternator, relay and fuse panels are wrapped in plastic to waterproof them.

yea pressure spraying is not a good idea, like how theotherdave said, the electrical stuff as well as otehr components under the hood are not ment to get wet, UNLESS its fully preped.

you might smell some burning, and may see smoke, depending where the oil got onto, just keep an eye on it.
