Powdercoating the fat fives??
I think it's a great idea. Buy a quality CF hood, though... and have it shot with UV-blocking clear coat.
Re: Powdercoating. It's absolutely mandatory that the tires come off.
Powdercoating relies on electric charge to adhere the particles to bare steel, then a very high temp oven is used to melt and bond the coating to the metal. If the surface prep is well done, the finish should be very durable. Color and gloss level can be varied quite be tweaked quite a bit. 
And ix-nay on the chroming. :ugh: IMO, that's too gaudy and cheap-looking.
