There are some areas on my car where the paint is chipping pretty badly. I was told when I bought the car that the previous owner had it painted by Macco. Should I just get the car repainted ? Or is there an alternative ?

grind it and repaint it, unless you want to deal with the macco shit job...
did he disclose that it was painted at maaco when you bought the car, or event hat it was every repainted?

Seems about right. Shops are supposed to use a more expensive, flexible paint on the plastic parts. If the paint is only chipping on those plastic parts, then that is probably consistent with a cheap paint job.
I would (but I am also on a fixed budget) just get a good shop to try to match the paint, and paint the plastic parts. I would imagine that the paint elsewhere should be fine.
