Default skunk2 vs. stock + vafc

Hey everybody, I have a '94 GSR that came with a Skunk2 ECU...I am getting terrible gas mileage (like 180 - 210 miles on a full tank!). So I was wondering, could someone tell me what all the Skunk2 ECU does differently than the stock ecu. Could it be the main reason I am getting such awful fuel economy? Should I just sell the Skunk2 ECU and go for a stock p72 ecu with a vafc or something? What all could I do with a vafc anyway? Any help would really be appreciated, because I am really tired of filling up on premium twice a week. Thanks.

Get a tune up, plugs, wires etc. but id say skunk2 definatly has a little to to with it, arnt they tuneable? u could even get a vafc and that would help im sure. vafc in my opinion is pretty cool shit.

It's not tunable, it's a piggyback ecu chip. The skunk2 chip is notorious for running super rich and dumping a lot of fuel in.

I've already replaced the plugs, fuel filter, run fuel system cleaner and made sure I had proper tire pressures, and I'm still getting crap gas mileage. My buddy with a '99 GSR is getting like 350+ miles on a tank and I'm really jealous. How much do you think it would cost for a stock ecu and a vtec air fuel controller, and what all could I do with it? Thanks again.

If you want a VAFC, might as well stick with the skunk2 chip and use the VAFC to tune the fuel. But have someone who knows what theyre doing tune it on a dyno.

I am waiting until spring to put in my type R cams. Then I think I am going to get a vafc or vafc2 and get everything dyno tuned. So until then,I am just going to have to deal with a discolored bumper. Any idea how much it will cost me to have my car dynoed/tuned? Also, still not exactly sure what all I could do with a vafc or where I can find one for a decent price...

for specs: www.apexi-usa.com

for prices, check our sponsors.

dyno tuning will vary from shop to shop, but expect $100-$150/hr. or so
