Default Overfilling gas tank

What can happen if you overfill your gas tank? Today I overfilled it ;_;. Is there some way to tell if it's starting to overfill?

What kind of damage does it do to the car? Specifically, my '93 Integra GS-R?

yeah, when the pump clicks off, the gas tank is full.

I don't see why anything bad would happen.
My dad overfilled his car once a long time ago and it leaked out of the gas cap while we were driving

I top mine off basically until it's about to spill out and pour into the little drain hole.
Why? So I dont have to get gas as quickly.

Believe it or not, I put in a little under 1 gallon more gasoline if I "top off"

I fill it, it clicks. I wait a second, fill and it stops, wait again, fill, stops, wait agai, fill, stops, I do that until I can literaly hear the gasoline in the tube like righht by the filling spot, UNF.
Sometimes it spills and goes through the drain hole, who cares.

Note: Even doing that I never put in over 11.5 gallons, odd.

I just started searching the net, and I read that it could ruin some vapor sensor or the O2 sensor

Just as long as some of you guys don't have problems with it, then I'm fine

Dude, you aren't going to murder your car by putting too much gas in. Hell, if you're that worried go rev your shiz to like 6krpm and leave it there for 10 minutes.

Or, go get a hose.

how about letting it empty too much before filling it back up? is it true that you get deposits in your fuel lines and make your car run bad? or is that just a myth?

Default An Interesting Question....

BlackGSR2000,
That's a question I've thought about, too - whether it's bad for the engine to wait till the gas is really low to fill it up again.... Please post any info you find out

Since the fuel pickup is at the bottom of your gas tank, there really is no reason why its bad to fillup the tank when its almost dry or when its almost full. It makes no difference to the engine either as the fuel pickup never moves in the tank. It might be bad for your engine if you had suger or sand that a jealous boyfriend dumped in your tank for boinking his girl, but then you have other problems to worry about.

Conclusion: Fillup when your low on gas, dont worry about how low just make sure you always have enough to get to the gas station.

i'm guessing if you go a little buckwild with that gas...if you get it spilling on your car that would be bad, might wanna clean that up right away, but otherwise i dont think a little more gas than when the pump stops wouldn't hurt.
