what car is a better deal?
hello, first i would like to say hello, i am new to HAN. right now i am looking to buy another car and these are my three choices. i havent driven any of these cars yet, but i will have driven all of them by tommorrow afternoon.
i need to make a decision by this week, because next week i my workschedule will not permit me to leave at a reasonable time to go to the bank, etc.
1)A 96 GSR which has a built motor. the guy who is selling it says that it is a B18C1 block with a B18C5 head, rods pistons, oil pump, the whole 9 yards. the motor only has around 1k miles since the build, and the body has 90k miles. it is lowered and has a cat back exhaust. he is asking $7300 obo. my question is, how reliable of a build is this, and how much is the car worth.
2)A 99 LS with 71k miles. it is 5-speed and is pretty much bone stock. it is at a dealership and they are asking $8900. it lookes to be in pretty good condition all around.
3)A 99 civic si with 61k miles. The guy who is selling it is the original owner. It will come with custom exhaust, intake, 16" rims, an pioneer headunit, tinted windows, and it has been lowered. i am not sure how far it has been dropped though. he told me that the car was keyed along one side, but he said that he said that a body shop said that they could buff it out. he is asking $8500 obo.
what do you guys think?

1. GSr, sounds pretty good, how old is the seller? how long has he owned it? the problem with cars that have already had performence mods is that the driver generally drove it into the ground or at least hard, so your buying a very tired motor. as for the age, if hes an older guy, generally their more resposible, have more respect for the car and didn't drive it crazy like the younger kids.
2. LS, sounds good. bone stock is nice, i would pay $7,000 - 8,000. nothing over 8,000. "pretty much bone stock," what makes it almost bone stock? even an intake = guy drove it hard.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Well now my choices have considerably narrowed. The LS has been sold, so that is out of the picture, and I took a look at the Si last night, and I can tell that thing has been run hard, not to mention the body is in so-so condition. That really just leaves the GSR.
I was unable to drive that car yet, but i have actually been able to look at the car itself because i saw it parked. The exterior/interior is in very good condition. I am supposed to take it for a drive tommorrow. The guy with the GSR gave me the name of the shop that did the work, and I will give them a call and check them out. Apparently it is a shop that specializes in B-series engines. He said that this car is his daily driver and that it was built for reliablity. He said he never took it to the track or anything like that. I am not sure how old he is but he sounds like he is relatively young (around my age) and gave me the cliche' "i am selling my car because i am having a baby " story. I will let you guys know my impressions after i drive the car.

you would be supprised that that my be the auctual reason for him selling the car i know many guys who had kids at a young age and had to sell their rides. its worth it to check it out ya never know.
