I just put a Y21 B16A tranny in my 95 LS. Its a 5 speed tranny and it has a kaaz lsd installed in it. I used the Kaaz gear oil for lsd's and its a little under 2 quarts in the tranny. I know your supposed to have 2 1/5 quart. My problem is that when I downshift into 3rd at like say 35mph theres a small grind when going in. Then when Im upshifting to 2nd at higher rpm it grinds. I called hmotors(where I bought it from) and told him what I oil I was using and he told me to fill the rest of the tranny up with GM Syncromesh. He said that should help it out and decrease the grinding. Has anyone used this? I dont really want to rebuild my tranny right now. Anyone else have any ideas on what it could be or what I could do to help stop it. Thanks J

 

I'd say do what they told you to do. worst comes to worst don't you have a warranty on the tranny?

 

Push the clutch to the floor and see if it does the same thing when driving. Something may be out of line with the clutch and the new tranny.

 

or you coulda got a bunk tranny with f'ed up syncros

 

i have a GSR '00 tranny with about 40k miles on it im tryen to get rid of, it has a very minor grind at about 7000 rpm's goin into 3rd gear.. i beleive it to be syncro as well. So i just put a new one in, if you know anyone who wants the 00 tranny let me know

 

how much for the 00' tranny? and if i put it in an ls would i have that problem cause i do'nt go up to 7000rpm? :happysad:

 

Yea he said it comes with a startup warranty. So I went and tested it then I called him and said when im downshifting into 3rd it does it. He said oh the warranty is only for upshifting. Then I told him about shifting it high into 2nd and he said it dosent cover high performance use. I was like WTF. So I dont know what im going to do. I guess find a bottle of syncromesh and try that. Anyone have anymore comments I would appreciate them. Thanks J

I would call them up and give them complete shit. That "warranty" is rediculous. The warranty should cover all aspects of a transmission's use regardless. Bitch them out because that is just retarded.

 

What should I say. He said also its a startup warranty only. Ive had the tranny in for 3 days, and I called him after I took the first drive and thats what he said.
