Default wheel offset

Could someone explain this concept to me? I'm not too sure about offset. Is it the distance from the hub to the stud holes or the width?

I need a new wheel and I was wondering if a civic steelie would fit a teg perfectly with no rubbing or anything. I know they're both 4x100, but the offset I believe is off.

thanks.

The offset is how the wheel sits when on the car the lower the offset number the more the wheel sticks out and the higher the offset number the closer it is in. As far as the Civic steelies they should fit with no problem if its a 14 inch. 13 inch wont clear the calipers on Integras.

13" civic wheels won't clear the front calipers, however you can run them in the rear.
