Default Integra passed BAR Smog test!!!

Alright dudes, my Integra was scheduled for its smog test today and it passed with flying colors. They asked me what I did and I said nothing. It must have been your machine...they were not convinced, but did not argue since their machine was down mon, tues and 1/2 of weds and so I my tues. appt. was cancelled because of that, so they may have believed me.
I talked to the guys for about 20 mins. afterwards and found some shit out. Did you all know a cop can still sight you for anything w/a carb number? He can do it just to be a dick and have the ref. check you out. Cause apparently the EO Numbers for aftermarket parts are specific t the vehicle they are made for. So for instance, if cross your aem short ram from a civic and surprise it fits a del sol too but the EO number does not match the car, the ref. can fail you. I was surprised, these guys actually knew quite a bit about engine swaps and what needs to be in order for it to be tested as that car. For instance a b18c1 in a hatch has to be done so that the civic can be tested as an integra. If the block and head don't match up (lsvtec or some other mixed and matched motor) the ref. can fail you. The hose between your valve cover and intake must be fuel/oil resistant hose. I did not know this and my stock one had split and I replaced it with a silicone one. He was cool and replaced it in a minutes time, but let me know that can be a fail as well. I found out that the Ref, is NOT a DMV employee and they are privately contracted through the Bureau of Automotive Repair (B.A.R.) and that cops use them cause they are mostly out of colleges to whom students are "properly' being instructed as to how things are to be "properly" inspected. He was telling me that he sees our cars all damn day and that he actually thinks most of them are pretty cool, but he has a job to do and so he does it. So yeah, we talked about some other shit too, but I can't remember it all. I learned a few things though...

Well shit...yesterday i just went to get my car smog. I failed the emission test.
Everything else pass as in PCV valve, timing, etc. I had on a AEM CAI, and Skunk2 IM and a high flow cat. Going to put my stock air box back on and if i can find myself a stock cat. I failed miserably on the emission test, my HC and CO # was higher than average. I hope to get this shit done quick and soon cause i'm getting tired.....

The high flow cat is probably what is not working properly, they never do for long. Stock OBD2 is about 9 bills. You can get a factory re-man from an exhaust shop for about 3 bills and is authorized to be on your car. Since you already failed once, the tech. was obviously not too concerned w/your aftermarket cat. So even an non-authorized aftermarket cat might do you some good.

Well today I went to court and to say the least I waited around for about 2 hrs. and was out in 15 seconds. The judge just called your name you went up, listened to the charge, pleaded, he offered a trial and asked if you could pay today or if time was needed. He didn't ask to see my correction paperwork, he said my violation was "non-correctable" caused it had to do with pollution which is a health issue. So I was like WTF? Anyways, my bail was $336 bills. On top of that my repairs to pass smog (which would eventually be needed anyways) was $600 bills. So I'm not too pissed about that, cause the car was need to get smogged next year anyways, so better now since I did get a free cat from Acura. So Point Being...if you live in Cali. they are cracking down on our culture, make sure your parts have CARB Numbers and are legally made for your vehicle and don't have the bottle hooked up. It sucks and took me about 2 months and a grand to put this behind me. Learn from my **** up. Here is a website where you put in your CARB EO Number and pull up the exact part on your car for your car. If you got a lot of shit, start a portfolio of your legal mods and keep it on hand for the "DICK" cops who still don't think the number is good enough and think they are smart enough to identify your part belongs to another car. Here it is: www.arb.ca.gov
