Default 95 GSR Stalls Cold Startup

Hey Guys need little help. I've read some other posts on here about Tegs stalling and the problem ususally stems from a bad coil or ICM, don't know if these are one in the same, or a bad fuel main relay.
My problem started 2 days ago, I go out to warm my '95 GSR up and it'll startup run for about 1-2 minutes then shut off, before it shut off it's sounds like it's coughing( don't really know how to explaining this problem) or it seems like it's trying to hack up some flem so to speak. Then I try to start it again, it starts and immediately shuts off. On the 3rd to 5th try it finally starts, but I have press the gas pedal in and keep the RPM's up around 1500-2000k for it to stay running. This is currently on happening when the engine is cold and it cold outside, once the engine is warmed up it run fine, no stalls, or hiccups. The coil has been replaced in the last 6 months. If it warm outside I have no problems. It just started getting colder here in N.C. at night and in the morning. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Is the check engine light on? It seems like the engine is misfiring. Lots of things could cause this. Something ignition related, fuel related, timing belt related, etc.

Actually I just re-read your post and noticed you said that it runs fine when warmed up, and you don't have the problem when it's warm...so it's not misfiring, no fuel/spark/timing belt problems. It could be the fast idle thermo valve, which controls idle when the engine is cold.

How would you go about testing the fitv to see if it's bad or not?

hey master yodub,

I replaced the fitv, hooked everything back up, charged the battery cause it died from sitting for too long. But now the car will not even crank. It's getting fuel, and power from the battery but it just won't crank. This has me scracthing my head now. Could it be a bad tank of gas? Or something else? Any help would be wonderful.

I went and bought a cap and rotor button today, I'll install these and see if that helps and let update the post.

replaced the cap and the car started up is running. But tried to replace the button and I stripped the screw. Does anybody know if the screw is forward or reverse threaded? I know that they make a tool to remove stripped screws. Has this happened to anybody? Also know my teg will not stay started again, I smelled a sulfuric and rotten egg smell from the car. A buddy of mine says that my cat is toast. I think I might gut it until I can get it home and replace it.
Does anybody now of any online stores that carry cat converters? Thanks for any help.
