Default Why are spark plug wire covers so damn expensive?

I was cleaning my motor tonight (not like it was that dirty) and I decided to try and paint my wire cover. I prepped it with a warm wash in soapy water, gave it a prime and a coat or two and now it looks like shit. So I took the paint off and fine sanded it. Now the paint over it looks hairy. So i ****ed up I gues you could say. So I am looking for a new wire cover now, but the cost so damn much and why? How complicated is it really? Anyone know where I can get one for cheap?

h: Lesson learned: leave teh goddamn thing alone. :chuckles:

Seriously, though... if your paint coat isn't laying flat, then strip it off and make sure all the solvents are washed out. Then lay down a few light coats of hi-temp primer and a half-dozen light coats of high temp engine enamel.

I'd try to salvage the stock part before dropping $100 on a cast aluminium plate. h:

Yes, but very lightly wet-sand.
Doing so will prevent the carbide from contaminating the primer coat.

GSRRacer95 i tried out those ebay spark plug covers (my car didnt have one for some reason)..the plastic is flexible as hell and will curve down where the holes are at when u tighten the nuts. if you dont tighten them enough, the nuts loosen themselves and will eventually come off.. if you tighten them as tight as they should be tightened, the spark plug cover breaks. i think mine started to crack even before my nuts got lost. ....... ha yeah i replaced it with an aluminum one and i havent had any problems with it so far but it cost alot more than the ebay one.....
