this guy that goes to my tech school said he uses 112 octane that he gets down at the airport for $5/gal. What exactly are the advantages to using 112 octane and is it worth $5/gal?

 

only advantage is if you're running really high compression or loads of boost. worth it, unless you're running a really crazy setup, no

 

that and if your setup isnt right you will either blow your engine or burn your injectors up like crazy...or something like that..i know it isnt good unless ur car is set up right...my boy runs an h22 all motor fully built and gets 110 octane at the 1/4 track but only runs it half 110 octane and half 93?(or whatever the super octane from the gas station is)

 

Of course, AV gas is also illegal for highway use. My dad used to run amix of the 110 from the airport and leaded regular for a while, then the unleaded super

 

All piston engine aviation fuel is LEADED!! Don't use it in your post mid 70s car, it will do damage.

Yea thats why many octane boosters claim that its a 'lead substitute'

 

It will poison the cat(lead) It will not hurt the engine at all. The lead moderates the combustion, diminishes liklihood of preignition.

 

True story. But you won't see any benefits from it. Like snoop said, unless you're running extremely high compression, or lots of boost, or a combination, it's worthless to you.

 

and to think I laughed when they told me that a class in physical chemistry would be useful for something besides satisfying chem major requirement
