Default Gearing Question

Not very realistic, and more of a curiosity issue, than a realistic one, but:

In some video games, you can modify cars. ITR's come stock in 5 speed manual. After modifying drivetrain (i'm too lazy to read everything that goes into that), it get's 6 speed. WTF goes into doing that for real, and what kind of addition does it do?

i highly doubt that it's going to be very beneficial at all. look at the DC5-R compared to the DC2-R and they preform very comparitively. if you're going to mess with the transmission, look into final drives. (ATS or JDM ITR)

The idea would be to keep a car in its max power range at a greater variety of speeds.

It makes sense the way some cars are set up...but not with a lot of them, including many that do come with six speeds, like the RSX Type S. IMHO, we'd do as well and save a little money by having a five speed in the Type S.

It would cost a lot of money, add weight, and possibly have space problems putting a six speed gearbox in the DC2 ITR.
