Default is a knock sensor really needed

Im going to do ls vtec just so whoever replys and reads this knows why im asking. But is it that necessary to have a knock sensor. It seems as if most of the reprogrammed ecus have no knock sensor inputs(honda data, katmans stuff). Anyone have any opinions?
Thanks

You don't need a knock sensor.

Knock sensors would not be _needed_ for your situation, with the proper tuning... but I have no idea if they're even installable on a LS/VTEC setup

They can be installed into the LS block if you really want to, but IMO it's not necessary. However, if you plan on running a GSR ECU, it will look for a knock sensor. Some aftermarket piggyback chips eliminate that.

Without knock sensor a stock ecu will throw a fault code and immediately disable vtec, but a hondata unit can disable the need for a knock sensor, but with stock ecu might not vtec won't work.

Only if you're using a stock ECU that looks for a knock sensor.
