Default 98 GSR Timing Belt and Water Pump $490.00

I got a GSR with 95,000 thinking about having the Timing Belt and Water pump done. Local shop that specializes in Honda / Acuras quoted me $490. Sound about right to everyone? As much as I'd love to save money there is no way I could do this myself.

Thanks

Sounds kinda steep....I mean even if you pay retail at the dealer for the parts which is like $80. Those guys are charging $400+ for labor alone. Then again I really don't know how much shop usually charges since I don't take it to them.

I think the last time my friend took her accord to get timing belt and water pump done, it was like $300. Accords have 2 timing belts? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats way too expensive. Keep looking around for a lower price.

I don't think you'll find a shop that will do it for less than $400. The labor is going to be at least $250-$300 and they'll probably give you new coolant and replace a couple of gaskets. If you can do it yourself, you might be able to do it for about a third of that price.

I just had mine replaced on a '95 LS. I live in Chicago so maybe prices are higher but I called 6 mechanics and the best price was $500.

I was quoted $430 so sounds about right maybe a little high. My friend who is a mechanic said that we could do it but could not get the stupid crankshaft bolt off. Was on way to tight. Checked the belt though and it looked in better condition then the one that I was going to put on. So I think that I am ok for a while. Pop of the Valve cover and check the belt. See if it is cracked, old looking, covered in oil that sort of thing. Look at the teeth on the belt too, if they look bad it is time to replace it. GL
