Default help please;weird rattling noise when ac is on

today after driving my car i turned it off for about 30mins. and when i cranked it up again the ac was on and there was this rattling noise. so i popped my hood and it sounded like a belt was rattling or one of the pulley's. as soon as i got in my car i pressed the gas and the noise increased. then i turned off the ac and it cut right off. is this just a loose ac belt? what should i do?thanks in advance for any replies

start off by shutting down the AC before shutting off the car and be in drive and moving before starting the AC again

ya i've tried turning it off and on while driving, idling, turning the ac off then turning the car off, or leaving the ac on and turning the car off and its always the same results. but when i turn the ac up to 3 or 4 the noise goes away or mabey the noise of the air being blown is to loud to hear it.

p.s. - its a gsr=5 speed

Oh I know that, I could have said when you're in gear, or in a forward motion, but a GSR had 5 forward or drive gears and one backwards gear, so

Actually, after my car got out of the shop from the wreck, I had the same problem. The fvcking shop didn't tighten down my PS pulley or the AC pulley.

I got out of the lot, drive 1/2 mile and my power steering went. I go back and they fixed it real quick. I start driving home (30 min drive) and I kick my AC on while driving on the highway, and hear this NASTY noise.

I went right to my friend's house, he has a garage & tools, I don't. He looked it all over and saw that my AC pulley was VERY loose. He tightened it down, and everything is great

Hope this helps.

That sounds like it should be it, I'll try to tighten it and see if it works. Thanks man.

No problem.

Also, if that doesn't help... get some belt dressing from any auto parts store, that might help out.

Agreed...check for proper tension (not much deflection...pretty taut). Also check that tensioner...its held on by one bolt.

Well I decided I can't really do this myself becuase there's really not enough room for me to get to it. I guess I'll take it to a shop. I think I want to get the valves checked too cuase my car's idle is funky. But it's all good, just wanted to make sure I wasn't in any danger.
