friends itr having problems
Ok heres the story my friend's 97' itr has been giving him alot of trouble lately. When it hits vtec he doesnt feel the difference in power at all. Also since putting in his short shifter his tranny has been making funny noises. The mods he has are cai, header, exhaust, fuel pressure regulator, and a short shifter. All of these problems just came about in the last month or so. He's actually contemplating selling it because of the constant hassle. Please help me out so he can find out whats wrong with it and fix it. Thanks
The first thing you need to do is single out the problem. Posting a vague description of "he doesn't feel the difference in power at all" really doesn't mean much to me or perhaps anyone on here. There could be alot of factors. Find out if VTEC itself is actually engaging. If it's not, there is your problem.
As far as the transmission goes, well let me say the stock ITR transmission isn't exactly the beefiest transmission on the market. Unexperienced shifting and time eventually lead to the pre-mature wear and tear on the synchronizers inside the transmission. This is most noticeable with the infamous grind. The winding problem may be a bearing inside the transmission. An there are numerous bearings inside the transmission that may cause it to whine. Make sure the whine is coming from the transmission before you go inside of it though. It could be something else. Differential shims wearing may cause a whine in the transmission also.

If you and your freind live in an area that has good tuners (such as DC or Charlotte) then stop by a shop and have them look.
Your description is kinda vague and would need to have more details.
We'll try to help if you can post all that we need.

Took the car up to an Acura dealership this morning to get a full check. If that doesnt work then we'll go to a tuner shop. Hes pretty sure hes gonna sell it but he wants to find out whats wrong with it first. Thanks for the reply's.
